Sabres sign prospect Rasmus Asplund to entry-level contract

The Sabres have signed Rasmus Asplund, one of their top forward prospects, to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced today.

Asplund, 20, played his third full Swedish Hockey League season in 2017-18, compiling eight goals, 20 assists and 28 points – all career highs – in 50 games with Färjestad BK.

The Swede compiled 20 goals and 62 points in 170 career SHL contests over parts of four campaigns.

The Sabres drafted the 5-foot-11, 176-pound Asplund in the second round, 33rd overall, in 2016.

Asplund scored four goals and 12 points in 14 games over two World Junior Championship appearances with forward Alexander Nylander, the Sabres’ 2016 first-round pick.

In addition to Asplund, the Sabres recently signed two other Swedes – forward Victor Olofsson and defenseman Lawrence Pilut – and will almost certainly draft Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin first overall next month.
