Sabres send Brayden McNabb to Amerks for one game

BUFFALO – Defenseman Brayden McNabb, a healthy scratch the last two games, will play tonight for the Rochester Americans before returning to the Sabres.

Sitting long isn’t good for the 22-year-old, interim Sabres coach Ted Nolan said. The Amerks host the Utica Comets tonight.

“The greatest thing about having the Rochester Americans so close he can go down and play,” Nolan said this afternoon following practice inside the First Niagara Center. “He sat out almost five days now. We can give him some game action. We’ll recall him right after the game.”

In other lineup news, defenseman Alexander Sulzer (undisclosed) missed practice again today, meaning he’s likely out Thursday against the New York Rangers.

“We thought he was going to be better today,” Nolan said. “He’s getting a lot better today, but not to a point he can play yet or practice. It’s going to be day-to-day.”

To make room for forward Cody McCormick, who’s ready to return from a four-game absence, the Sabres could place Sulzer on injured reserve, Nolan said.

“It’s never fun sitting there,” said McCormick, whose injury has been described as either upper or lower. “I’ve done it too many times in my career. So I’m just looking forward to this game right now.”

Meanwhile, illness kept winger Matt D’Agostini from practicing today.

“Little bit of a flu bug, maybe,” Nolan said.

D’Agostini could play Thursday, he said.
