Sabres re-sign Nathan Beaulieu to two-year contract

BUFFALO – The Sabres have re-signed defenseman Nathan Beaulieu to a two-year, $4.8 million contract, the team announced today.

Beaulieu, a restricted free agent, had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday.

With Beaulieu’s deal done, the Sabres only have one unsigned RFA, forward Zemgus Girgensons.

The Sabres acquired Beaulieu, 24, from the Montreal Canadiens on June 17 for a 2017 third-round pick.

Beaulieu has played 225 NHL games over four seasons, compiling seven goals, 60 points and 152 penalty minutes. He recorded four goals and 28 points in 74 contests last season, all career highs.

The Canadiens selected Beaulieu in the first round, 17th overall, in 2011.

Update: The Sabres have hired former NHL defenseman Mike Komisarek as a player development coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Komisarek, 35, played 551 NHL games over parts of 11 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes. The West Islip native retired in 2013 with 14 goals, 81 points and 679 penalty minutes.

Komisarek recently spent two years as a student assistant coach at Michigan, where he played two NCAA seasons. He left school in 2002, a year after Montreal drafted him seventh overall.

Sabres general manager Jason Botterill also played at Michigan before Komisarek.
