Sabres re-sign goalie Linus Ullmark

BUFFALO – The Sabres have re-signed goalie Linus Ullmark to a two-year, $1.5 million contract, the team announced this afternoon.

Ullmark, 23, spent most of last season with the Rochester Americans, playing an AHL-high 55 games and just one NHL contest. He was due to become a restricted free agent.

If the Vegas Golden Knights don’t select Ullmark in the upcoming expansion draft – given the Swede has morphed into top prospect, he could be grabbed – he might graduate to the Sabres next season.

Ullmark backstopped a weak Rochester team last season, going 26-27-2 with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. The AHL All-Star faced a league-high 1,678 shots.

“Linus has worked hard both on and off the ice, and his performance at both the NHL and AHL levels has reflected those efforts,” Sabres general manager Jason Botterill said in a statement. “He made great strides during his second season in North America and we are eager to see him continue his development.”

In 21 NHL appearances over his two North American seasons, Ullmark is 8-11-2 with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. The Sabres drafted him in the sixth round, 163rd overall, in 2012.

  1. For Botterill to sign him to a new contract, clearly says he has a deal in place to keep Vegas from selecting Ullmark.

    It’s common sense.
