Buffalo Sabres defense prospect Ryan Johnson has earned a spot on Team USA’s 25-man roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
USA Hockey announced the roster today.
Johnson, 19, has compiled zero goals and four assists in six games this season as a sophomore at Minnesota. The Sabres drafted Johnson 31st overall in 2019.
The American is the son of former NHL forward Craig Johnson.
On Friday, Team Canada named Sabres forward prospects Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn to its World Junior roster.
Update: Sabres forward prospect J-J Peterka has earned a spot on Team Germany’s World Junior roster, the IIHF announced Sunday. Peterka, the 34th overall pick in October, has scored seven goals and 16 points in 12 games for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian League.
Peterka scored four goals and six points in seven games in last year’s tournament.
The tournament begins Christmas Day in Edmonton. The COVID-19 pandemic will force players and staff to live in a “bubble.” Fans cannot attend the games.
