Sabres’ Miller named March’s second star

BUFFALO – Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who led the NHL with four wins thanks to a gaudy 1.26 goals-against average and .956 save percentage, has been named the league’s second star for the week ending March 25.

Miller allowed only five goals during the week and just two during his last three starts. He recorded his career-high sixth shutout in a 3-0 win Wednesday over Montreal.

“It’s not something you do on your own,” Miller said Monday inside the First Niagara Center. “You just have to make it a team effort. … I truly believe if you have a goaltender who gets recognized for anything it’s because your teammates are willing to do something where they’re in the shooting lane, they’re blocking shots, they’re playing the kind of defense you can make your reads, make your saves. … It’s got to be everybody.”

Miller’s 18-3-5 with a 1.83 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage in his last 27 games.

Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin (five goals and nine points) earned the first star. Washington’s Alex Ovechkin (six goals and seven points) was the third.
