Ted Nolan on Linus Omark’s Sabres debut: ‘He has to be better’

Interim coach Ted Nolan wasn’t too impressed with winger Linus Omark’s Sabres debut in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Bruins.

“Eh, he has to be better,” Nolan told reporters in Boston.

Omark’s hooking penalty 9:07 into the game led to Reilly Smith’s power-play goal. The 26-year-old also set up Matt Ellis in front nicely early and nearly potted Ellis’ rebound in front late in the game.

“We’ll give him a checkmark for just getting here last night,” Nolan said.

Omark skated 12:57, mostly on the left wing beside Ellis and Kevin Porter. The Sabres acquired Omark from Edmonton on Thursday for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.

Porter, meanwhile, left the game with 3:14 left in the second period after Johnny Boychuk appeared to hit his hip along the boards.

“We’ll get a doctor’s report on that,” Nolan said. “It didn’t look good. He’ll miss some time, for sure.”

Nolan defenseman Alexander Sulzer, who left about midway through the third period, “should be OK.”

  1. I really don`t see this going to well with Nolan already commenting negatively on a player that has 1 game in a Sabres uniform!! These moves they are making going back and forth with Rochester is indicating they think they have a chance to make noise this year ?? Nope, nope and nope. Play out the year, get experience for young players, draft a player in the top 3 that can play immediately, free agency and go from there next year……
