Sabres’ Zach Bogosian undergoes hip surgery, out five to six months

BUFFALO – Sabres defenseman Zach Bogosian has undergone successful hip surgery and will be sidelined five to six months, the team announced this morning.

That could put the start of Bogosian’s 2019-20 season in jeopardy.

Injuries, of course, have ravaged Bogosian throughout his career. The Massena native underwent season-ending hip surgery during the 2017-18 campaign.

Bogosian, 28, rebounded and played 65 games this season, his highest total since 2010-11. Still, a lower-body injury, almost certainly his hip, forced him to miss the last eight contests.

On April 8, Bogosian, one of the Sabres’ most reliable veterans, said he was trying to figure out how to address the injury and talking to doctors.

Bogosian compiled three goals, 19 points, 52 penalty minutes and a minus-5 rating this season while averaging 21 minutes, 38 seconds an appearance.
