Sabres’ Tyler Myers likely out against Penguins

BUFFALO – Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers will likely miss tonight’s tilt against the Pittsburgh Penguins after leaving Monday’s game early.

Myers (lower body) didn’t participate in the Sabres’ optional skate this morning. The 24-year-old could play Thursday in Ottawa, interim coach Ted Nolan said.

“It doesn’t look very good for tonight,” Nolan said inside the First Niagara Center. “Hopefully, he’ll be ready for tomorrow.”

Defenseman Chad Ruhwedel, a healthy scratch last game, will return. Center Zenon Konopka and winger Ville Leino will be scratched again.

The Sabres, losers of two straight, pumped a season-high 44 shots on goal in Monday’s 3-2 loss to Edmonton.

“I liked our energy level, our compete level,” Nolan said. “As I always mention, offense is like the weather sometimes – sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad.”

Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby makes his lone visit here this season. The ultra-slick center enters tonight’s game in a season-long five-game goal drought. He’s also pointless in two games for only second time this year.
