Sabres sign Jack Quinn to three-year, entry-level contract

The Buffalo Sabres have signed first-round pick Jack Quinn to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced today.

Quinn, the eighth overall pick last month, scored 52 goals and 89 points in 62 games last season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s.

The winger is one of 46 players Team Canada has invited to its 2021 World Junior Championship training camp, which begins Nov. 26 in Red Deer, Alberta.

If Quinn doesn’t make the team, he could join the Sabres for their camp, which might start next month. The NHL has targeted Jan. 1 to begin the season. That start date, however, could be pushed back because positive COVID-19 test numbers have been skyrocketing throughout North America.

The OHL, meanwhile, wants to begin a 40-game season Feb. 4.

The 6-foot, 167-pound Quinn, 19, morphed into one of junior hockey’s most lethal scorers last season, scoring 42 more goals and 67 more points than his rookie campaign.

Quinn ranked second in the OHL in goals last season and eighth in points. His 34 even-strength goals tied for the league lead. He was just the fourth OHL player in the last 10 years to crack the 50-goal mark in his draft season.
