Sabres sign Erik Burgdoerfer; Amerks ink goalie John Muse

BUFFALO – The Sabres added defense depth for the AHL today, signing Erik Burgdoerfer to a one-year, two-way contract.

He will most likely start next season with the Rochester Americans.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Burgdoerfer, 27, spent last season with the AHL Hershey Bears, compiling six goals, 20 points and 59 penalty minutes in 74 games.

Burgdoerfer mostly played in the ECHL for four seasons before moving up to the AHL in 2014-15. The East Setauket native played collegiately at R.P.I.

The Amerks have also signed goalie John Muse, 27, to a one-year AHL deal. The Massachusetts native won national championships as Boston College’s starter in 2008 and 2010.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Muse is 73-49-9 with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 145 career AHL games. He split last season between the Charlotte Checkers and Texas Stars, posting decent numbers – 18-9-4, 2.52 and .911 – in 37 appearances.

The Carolina Hurricanes recalled Muse in 2012-13 but never used him. Muse could start next season with the Elmira Jackals, the Sabres’ ECHL affiliate.

Eight Sabres games will be televised nationally on NBCSN, the NHL announced Thursday.
