Sabres recall Tim Schaller from Amerks

BUFFALO – With winger Drew Stafford questionable for tonight’s game in Montreal with a lower-body injury, the Sabres have recalled center Tim Schaller from the Rochester Americans.

The undrafted 24-year-old has never played in the NHL.

He has six goals, 15 points and 20 penalty minutes in 20 games this year. The Sabres gave the New Hampshire native a long looking during training camp.

Schaller has 17 goals, 33 points and 58 penalty minutes in 92 career AHL games. He played four seasons at Providence College.

In other news, Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin has a hearing with the NHL today for hitting Sabres captain Brian Gionta in the head late in Friday’s 2-1 win against Montreal.

Update: Emelin has been fined $11,021.51, the maximum amount under the collective bargaining agreement, for an illegal check to the head.

Stafford is out tonight.

  1. Also, what’s going on with McCormick – is he still injured?
Another question thats bugging me is the recent decline of progress in Rochester with the Americans. Will a group of underachievers magically turn into winners once they reach the NHL? Last I looked they were in 8th place in their conference. Not good enough. Something I’ve talked about with my co-workers is the quality of coaching depth in the Americans. When Rolston left, it was ‘next up man up,’ and while I think Cassidy has done ok, I don’t know if he has the resume or experience or qualifications to teach and develop the future stars of the NHL. This concerns us. Thanks for your great coverage Mr. Hoppe!

  2. Dupuy will probably go to the minors next season or later this year. McCormick has been practicing. Cassidy was more than the next man up, in my opinion. He did a good job as the interim guy and last year after he was hired. His body of work is greater than one bad month.
