Sabres prospect Jack Quinn must quarantine, will miss Amerks’ opener

Sabres prospect Jack Quinn will miss the Rochester Americans’ season opener Friday because he must quarantine following his arrival from Buffalo, coach Seth Appert said.

The Sabres assigned Quinn, 19, to the AHL club Monday after he spent two and a half weeks on their taxi squad.

The NHL added two Sabres – winger Taylor Hall and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen – to its COVID-19 protocol-related absences list Tuesday and postponed four of their games. Buffalo’s training facilities will also remain closed until further notice.

Quinn, a winger the Sabres drafted eighth overall last year, practiced with the Amerks earlier this week.

In a normal year, the rookie would likely be playing with his junior team, the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67s. Junior-age players can play in the AHL because their leagues are paused right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quinn scored 52 goals and 89 points in 62 games last season.
