Sabres’ Evander Kane happy investigation over

BUFFALO – A relieved-looking Evander Kane said this morning he’s happy he won’t be charged after a 74-day investigation into a sexual encounter he had Dec. 27 at a downtown hotel.

“I’m definitely happy that the process is behind me,” the Sabres winger said. “I’m very grateful with the support I got from the Buffalo Sabres and my teammates and family members as well. I’m thankful that this is behind me and we can move forward.”

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office and the Buffalo Police sex offense squad followed automatic protocols and determined Kane, 24, did nothing illegal. An announcement was made Friday. No criminal complaint was ever filed.

How did this process affect Kane’s life?

“It was definitely difficult,” he said. “Obviously, you don’t want to be associated with anything like that. As I said before, I did nothing wrong, and I’m glad the truth came out and prevailed.”

Sabres coach Dan Bylsma’s glad everything’s behind the Kane.

“I know it’s been over Evander’s head for a while now,” Bylsma said.

In other news, Bylsma said goalie Chad Johnson will start this afternoon against the Carolina Hurricanes inside the First Niagara Center.
