Sabres acquire Jerry D’Amigo from Blue Jackets for Luke Adam

BUFFALO – In a trade of AHL forwards, the Sabres today acquired Jerry D’Amigo from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Luke Adam.

D’Amigo has been assigned to the Rochester Americans.

“We feel that this was a good deal that gave both teams a player they were looking for,” Sabres general manager Tim Murray said in a statement. “Jerry brings a tremendous work ethic to our organization and we know he’ll have an immediate impact with the Amerks. Luke has been a steady force for our clubs since he was drafted in 2008 and we wish him luck as he joins the Blue Jackets’ organization.”

D’Amigo, 23, had three goals, seven points and 26 penalty minutes with the AHL Springfield Falcons this season. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Binghamton native has one goal and three points in 22 NHL games, all with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Toronto drafted D’Amigo 158th overall in 2009 before trading him to Columbus.

Meanwhile, Adam, 24, had eight goals, 20 points and 24 penalty minutes in Rochester this season. Adam was often an AHL star with Rochester and the Portland Pirates, compiling 85 goals and 181 points in 237 games.

But other than a strong few months at the start of 2011-12, Adam, the 44th pick in 2008, struggled during his NHL recalls. The Newfoundland native had 15 goals and 26 points in 87 games with the Sabres.

It became clear last season he wasn’t in the Sabres’ plans.
