NHL Free Agent Tracker: Sabres sign goalie Eric Comrie, Ilya Lyubushkin

BUFFALO – The Sabres have landed their first free agents of the day, signing goalie Eric Comrie and defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin to two-year contracts.

Comrie’s deal is worth $3.6 million. Lyubushkin’s is worth $5.5 million.

The Sabres, of course, needed to find another goalie with NHL experience. They had just two – Craig Anderson and Malcolm Subban – under contract for the upcoming season.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Comrie, 27, could serve as Anderson’s backup. Comrie spent all of last season with the Winnipeg Jets, compiling a 10-5-1 record with a 2.58 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage and one shutout in a career-high 19 games.

Goalie Dustin Tokarski, Anderson’s backup last season, has signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins worth $775,000.

Comrie has registered a 13-10-1 mark with a 3.06 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in 28 career NHL outings. He has also played for the Detroit Red Wings and New Jersey Devils.

Meanwhile, Lyubushkin, 28, spent last season with the Arizona Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs, recording two goals and 15 points in 77 games.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Lyubushkin gives the Sabres three right-shot defensemen with NHL experience.

The Russian has compiled three goals and 25 points in 211 career NHL contests. He began his career in the Kontinental Hockey League, playing five seasons for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv before joining Arizona in 2018. He briefly returned to Yaroslavl early in the 2020-21 season.

Prow, 29, led Amerks defenseman last season with 10 goals, 39 assists and 49 points. He ranked third among AHL defenders in assists and points.

The 5-foot-11, 183-pound Prow made his NHL debut Dec. 29, scoring a goal. He played four games for the Sabres.

Update: The Sabres have signed defensemen Kale Clague, Jeremy Davies and Chase Priskie to one-year, two-way contracts.
