Five ‘Sabres Classics’ from 2005-06 season to air next week on MSG

Five more “Sabres Classics” – this time regular-season games from 2005-06, one of the most memorable campaigns in franchise history – will be rebroadcast on MSG next week.

That season, of course, the Sabres morphed into a powerhouse after the NHL lockout ended, roaring to the Eastern Conference final. Co-captains Daniel Briere and Chris Drury led what was arguably the league’s deepest and most exciting lineup.

The games are being aired because the COVID-19 pandemic forced the NHL to suspend its season indefinitely March 12.

The contests will start at 8 p.m.

The complete schedule:

Monday, March 30: Sabres go over .500 for good

Taylor Pyatt’s hat trick and Tim Connolly’s three points helped the Sabres beat the Washington Capitals 8-5 on Nov. 17, 2005.

Tuesday, March 31: Sabres extend their winning streak to seven games

Goalie Ryan Miller backstopped the Sabres to 2-1 road shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 19, 2005.

Wednesday, April 1: Sabres finally defeat the Ottawa Senators

Thomas Vanek’s slick shootout goal secured a 2-1 triumph and Buffalo’s first win of the season over former Sabre Dominik Hasek and the Senators on Feb. 6, 2006.

Thursday, April 2: Sabres extend season-long winning streak to eight games

Drury recorded two goals and an assist as the Sabres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 on March 16, 2006.

Friday, April 3: Briere shines in win wild win over Senators

Briere scored in the final minute of regulation and overtime as the Sabres beat to the Senators 5-4 on April 5, 2006.
