Dynamic December earns Sabres’ Tage Thompson NHL Third Star honors

A career-best month in which he scored a whopping 13 goals and 22 points in 11 games has earned Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson NHL Third Star honors for December.

Thompson, 25, scored a goal in eight games during the month, including a five-goal, six-point outing on Dec. 7 in Columbus, and registered a point in nine contests.

In that 9-4 road win against the Blue Jackets, Thompson became just the second Sabres player to score five goals in one game and tied the NHL record by scoring four times in one period.

Thompson recorded five-other multi-point games in December. Overall, he has compiled 27 goals and 51 points in 34 contests this season entering tonight’s road game against the Ottawa Senators.

The Sabres, who went 8-2-1 in December, have moved within six points of a wild card spot.

Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin (13 goals, including his 802nd to move past Gordie Howe into second on the all-time list) and Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid (a league-high 14 goals and 31 points) were named the first and second stars, respectively.
