Chris Stewart ill; Zach Bogosian finally practices with Sabres

BUFFALO – OK, relax, Sabres fans. Chris Stewart hasn’t been traded yet. The winger, who will almost certainly be dealt prior to the March 2 trade deadline, missed today’s practice inside HarborCenter because he’s sick, coach Ted Nolan said.

Stewart’s status is unclear for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, defenseman Josh Gorges, who’s dealing with an undisclosed injury that won’t go away, missed the session and will be evaluated by doctors to “see if it’s more than maintenance,” Nolan said.

Today, believe it or not, was only the Sabres’ third practice this week. Defenseman Zach Bogosian, a part of Wednesday’s big Tyler Myers trade with Winnipeg, finally skated with his new team today.

“You kind of know what kind of player he is,” Nolan said. “To find out what kind of person he is a treat. He seems like a real fine gentleman. He’s got a great personality to him. He’s excited about being here being a close-to-Western New Yorker.”

Bogosian, who hails from Massena, said he experienced a lot of emotions when he found out he had been traded.

“Once I heard Buffalo, it was a good feeling that I was going to kind of come close to home and play in front of my family and friends,” Bogosian said.

Check back later for more on Bogosian, who skated with Andre Benoit today. The Sabres will discuss recalling a player, Nolan said.
