NHL, NHLPA set changes for 2020-21 season; Sabres can begin camp Dec. 31

Four new NHL divisions, including one comprised entirely of Canadian teams. A 56-game schedule. The Stanley Cup awarded in July.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which is still ravaging the United States and Canada, forced the NHL and NHL Players’ Association to make some major changes for the 2020-21 season.

NHL tells players they can return home

In a best-case scenario, the NHL could restart its season in the second week of May, the league announced today.

Of course, that timeline could be overly optimistic. The COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the NHL to suspend its season indefinitely Thursday, is a fluid situation.

Coronavirus pandemic forces NHL to suspend season

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the NHL to suspend its season indefinitely today.

The league announced the decision following a conference call with its Board of Governors and less than a day after the NBA suspended its season after one its players tested positive for coronavirus.

Sabres to open training camp Sept. 12

BUFFALO – The Sabres will open their main training camp Sept. 12, when veterans report for physicals and testing, then hold their first on-ice sessions a day later at KeyBank Center, the team announced today.

Sabres unveil 50th anniversary ‘Golden Jersey’

The Buffalo Sabres’ commemorative 50th anniversary jersey has been unveiled.

The white alternate “Golden Jersey” the Sabres released this morning “pays homage to the past and celebrates 50 years of NHL hockey in Buffalo,” according to the team.

It will be worn 13 times at home during the 2019-20 season.
