BUFFALO – The scene could be bizarre for Thursday’s highly anticipated McEichel sweepstakes showdown between the Sabres and the Arizona Coyotes, the NHL’s two worst teams.

Would Sabres fans really cheer for the Coyotes, who have a three-point lead, inside the First Niagara Center? Would they boo a Sabres goal?

Sabres trade Chris Stewart to Wild

BUFFALO – The Sabres have traded winger Chris Stewart to the Minnesota Wild for a 2017 second-round pick.

The 27-year-old, a free agent following the season, has 11 goals and 25 points in 61 games this season.

According to Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Mike Russo, the Sabres are picking up half of Stewart’s salary.

Sabres’ Cody McCormick had blood clots in lungs, hopes to return next season

BUFFALO – On Jan. 3 in New York, gritty Sabres forward Cody McCormick blocked a shot, something he has done 126 times in his career.

This time, however, the pain felt different. It lingered.

Sabres’ Cody McCormick likely out for season

Buffalo Sabres forward Cody McCormick, who was recently hospitalized with a blood clot in his calf muscle, will likely miss the rest of the season, coach Ted Nolan told reporters Sunday in Detroit.

“Right now, I’m not banking on him coming back,” Nolan said following the Sabres’ 6-4 loss.
