Bruins’ Brad Marchand rips Buffalo during radio interview

BUFFALO – Bruins winger Brad Marchand, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, called Buffalo “the worst place in the NHL” during an appearance on a Boston radio station.

“I’m not too excited to go there,” Marchand told WEEI on Thursday morning, “but I’ll be excited to leave.”

Ouch!

Marchand apologized later inside the First Niagara Center. Well, sort of.

“I never meant to offend anyone,” Marchand said after the Bruins prepared for tonight’s game against the Sabres. “It’s always cold and rainy when we come here, and I was just kind of playing around. I hope I didn’t offend anyone.”

Umm, Brad, Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs lives in East Aurora.

“He’s got a house in every city in the United States,” Marchand said. “So he’s OK.”

Marchand explained his “dislike” for Buffalo further, saying: “It’s a little cold here. There’s not a ton to do. You come and just got to hang around in the hotel. (Teammate Daniel Paille, an ex-Sabre) spoke very highly of it, especially in the summertime. So I’m sure it’s great if you live here. There’s nothing around, so I don’t know a whole lot about the city.”

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said he laughed at Marchand’s words on the radio.

“It’s just another guy that hasn’t lived here or been here,” he said. “I heard he’s a pretty funny guy.”
